Special Event Announcement
A look at the Prairie House inside the Cunningham House
The well preserved and newly owned Cunningham House is part of this year’s AIAOK tour. Included in the home tour will be an exhibition of the Prairie House. The exhibition will tell a story that begins with the relationship between the two homes, highlighting the original beauty of the Prairie House, and how it's changed over time through the formation of the Prairie House Preservation Society which was created to realize the restoration and preservation of the currently endangered building.
The exhibition will show the building in its original glory, its current condition, its restoration status, and an invitation to join in supporting the restoration.
Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Curated by Lila Cohen and Jeff Martin
Our monthly Home Tour offers opportunities for architecture enthusiasts, students, educators and local community to experience the space in its current state, while learning about the importance of preserving Herb Greene’s legacy and the pressing need to advocate for endangered historic architecture in the Norman area.
PHPS offers complimentary site tours and access for Native Americans and their affiliated organizations.
The all wood building exterior has experienced significant deterioration since being completed in 1961. The landscape and vegetation has also changed over time. As the PHPS works toward restoring and preserving the site, the visits are to encourage knowledge and support of this iconic masterpiece that is suffering.
All tour proceeds go toward the efforts behind restoring and preserving the Prairie House building and site.
